Waiting on God

WAITING ON GOD:
Psalm 27:14
“Wait on the Lord: Be of good courage and he shall strengthen thine heart, wait I say, on the Lord.”
Definition of wait is to stay where you are or delay doing something until somebody/something comes or something happens.
As a child of God we must not be hasty in life especially when dealing with our Heavenly Father. Our God is not a magician; He has a time frame for everyone and every situation.
Isaiah 55:8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts neither are your ways my ways saith the Lord. Don’t be a step ahead of God, don’t assume it must always be your way. We must learn how to believe and trust God that He will always show up at the right time( not too early and not too late but at the Perfect time).
There are five things One Can Do When Waiting On God:
1. Patience: Which happens to be a fruit of the spirit, another word is long suffering or forbearance
Galatians 5:22.
” But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,”
This is the ability to stay calm and accept a delay or perhaps someone annoys you but you refuse to complain. Abraham exhibited this for 25 years before his promised child was given birth to. Genesis 12:1-4

“1.Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:
And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
So Abram departed, as the Lord had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.”
Genesis 21:1-7.
“1 And the Lord visited Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did unto Sarah as he had spoken.
For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.
And Abraham called the name of his son that was born unto him, whom Sarah bare to him, Isaac.
And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac being eight days old, as God had commanded him.
And Abraham was an hundred years old, when his son Isaac was born unto him.
And Sarah said, God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me.
And she said, Who would have said unto Abraham, that Sarah should have given children suck? for I have born him a son in his old age.”
2. Perseverance: This is the quality  of continuing to try to achieve a particular aim despite difficulties.
 Nehemiah 6:8-9.
“8 Then I sent unto him, saying, There are no such things done as thou sayest, but thou feignest them out of thine own heart.
For they all made us afraid, saying, Their hands shall be weakened from the work, that it be not done. Now therefore, O God, strengthen my hands.”

Nehemiah was one leader that faced stiff opposition from his enemies in a bid to accomplish a project of rebuilding the broken walls of Jerusalem. For you as a child of God to stay on course in this Christian race Perseverance is very key. You may encounter opposition in different areas of your life, don’t dwell on them keep keeping on. Remember Perseverance is one virtue that moulds a Christians character.

3 Prayerful: Psalm 40:1
“I waited patiently for the Lord and He inclined unto me and heard my cry.”
This is one subject matter that can never be overemphasized, it is our medium of communication it must not be short circuited. It’s a channel in which we talk to our Father and also hear from Him. Learn to spend  more time in prayer when waiting on Him and I assure you the results will be tremendous
Jeremiah 33:3.
“Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.”
4 Persistence: Psalm 27:14
“Wait on the Lord be of good courage and He shall strengthen thine heart, wait I say on the Lord.”
In 2 Kings 2:1-19 you will notice there was a great episode between Elijah and Elisha, they journeyed from one location to another. From Gilgal -Bethel -Jericho -Jordan. Elijah kept on telling Elisha to tarry in each of these locations but Elisha was persistent he kept on saying ” as the Lord liveth and as thy soul liveth I will not leave thee.2 Kings 2:6b. He was resilient, he refused to give up. Perhaps there is someone who is reading this message and you’ve been waiting on God for a solution and you are at the point of throwing in the towel. God wants you to know “DON’T GIVE UP”. The answer is on the way.
5. Praise: Acts 16:25
“And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed and sang praises unto God and the prisoners heard them”.
In the place of waiting ensure you Praise God. What are people hearing from you when you are in the period of waiting? Is it complaints, murmuring, doubts, negative statements?. We need to realize that Praise is what makes the difference
Ephesians 5:19
“Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.”
Therefore as you wait on the Lord, let this mindset be in you that it is the will of our Father in Heaven that we receive answers to our prayers and petitions, however maintaining the right attitude is what makes the difference even when there is seemingly a delay. God can be trusted, He is faithful to accomplish His desires towards us.
