SERVICE – THE PATHWAY TO GREATNESS

SERVICE – THE PATHWAY TO GREATNESS

But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant. And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.” (Matthew 23:11-12).

The Lord has a system that guarantees promotion. This principle or system is called service. It is through service that people have received promotions they weren’t qualified for or walk into open doors that didn’t have their names on it. If greatness is your desire or destination, service is an unavoidable route to it.

Jesus, in our opening verse, reminded his disciples of the cup he had to bear. The Lord will perform all his promises to his people. “So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.” (John 21:15). Jesus was saying to Peter to serve my people. It is through service that the will of God is communicated, shown or experienced. Jesus in serving the will of the Father to reconcile man to God communicated the will and love of the Father in a way that had never been seen before – through the cross.

Service provides an opportunity for refinement. It was in the place of service that David was refined for the throne. It removes your excesses and aligns you to God’s will. Recall Jesus’ prayer “And He went a little farther, and fell on His face and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as Thou wilt.” (Matthew 26:39). Service is a rare privilege believers should not take for granted. Evangelism is a service where the believer in Christ Jesus is serving the love of God to the neighbors or the community. Do not run away from service because it is the pathway of real greatness. Your server in a restaurant didn’t prepare the meal, he or she delivers to you what the kitchen prepared. Brothers and Sisters, we deliver the love of God to our world.

PRAYER

Precious Father, I commit to serving the cause of the kingdom of God all the days of my life. Let men and women come to the knowledge of the Son of God through my service in the name of Jesus Christ.
