JESUS IS THE MESSAGE

Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life. (John 5:39-40)

Jesus is the message of the Scriptures. Any gospel that points man to anyone other than Christ Jesus is not of God. In Matthew 16, Jesus asked his disciples who men said he was, and they were quick to report that some said he was John the Baptist while others said Elijah. Jesus quizzed them on who they thought he was. “And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, “Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona, for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 16:16-17).

Jesus’ response to Peter’s confession sets the foundation for what the church should focus on. “And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” (Matthew 16:18). In essence, upon the confession of the revelation of Jesus Christ, the church is to be built. Focus on what Jesus came to do, what He accomplished, and His present-day ministry. Our theme verse shows that the responsibility of scripture is to bear witness to or testify to Jesus. This means Jesus is the central message of the Scriptures.

It is in Jesus that we find eternal life: “For as the Father hath life in himself, so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself” (John 5:26). Jesus is God’s message to the world. It is time to get back to the revelation of who Jesus is and build your life on that firm foundation. Jesus being God’s only message is enough; if God thought you needed more, He’d have made it available.

CONFESSION

My faith is built on the unchanging power of Jesus’ name. Jesus is God’s message of love, hope, peace, and eternal life. Thank you, Father, for the light of your word that has shone in my heart.
