IT’S TIME TO GROW UP

IT’S TIME TO GROW UP

When Martha got word that Jesus was coming, she went to meet him. But Mary stayed in the house. Martha said to Jesus, Lord, if only you had been here, my brother would not have died. (John 11:20-21 NLT).

We live in the dispensation where many have refused to take responsibility for their growth, education, health and success. They are quick to blame others for their mistakes or failures.

Our opening verse said Martha went out to meet Jesus after she heard Jesus had arrived. Martha immediately displayed her lack of growth. She somehow blamed Jesus for the death of her brother Lazarus. There are people in our churches today who have a binder full of blames for either the pastor or his wife, departmental leaders or the ushers. They are quick to tell whoever wants to listen how badly they were treated in one church and how they’d never go back to the church because an usher sat them on the wrong chair.

The acceptance of responsibility is one of the indices of growth. Recall that Martha had complained to Jesus about her sister Mary because she chose to listen to the word of God. “But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me. And Jesus answered and said to her, Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.” (Luke 10:40-42). Martha’s mistakes started with her not sitting on the feet of Jesus to learn and grow.

The writer of Hebrews captured it this way – “For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.” (Hebrews 5:12). Brothers and Sisters, it is time to grow up by submitting to the authority of the Word of God over your life. Put your feelings in check and stop playing the victim card all the time. The Lord is counting on you to grow up because there are lives dependent on it.
