DON’T FORGET THANKSGIVING

Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. (Philippians 4:6)

One of the missing aspects of prayer is thanksgiving. Prayer has become an opportunity for many believers and non-believers alike to name a list of demands they want from God. Prayer is designed as a means of fellowship where man exchanges weakness for strength and is brought into the will of God. Thanksgiving is an integral part of prayer – as a matter of fact, prayer is incomplete without thanksgiving.

Our theme verse says “Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” (Philippians 4:6) When Jesus taught his disciples the manner or protocol of prayer, thanksgiving was an obvious requirement. “After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.” (Matthew 6:9). If you follow the equation Jesus revealed in Matthew 6, you will receive answers to prayer just like Jesus did. Thanksgiving is part of your reverence to God – for who He is, what He has done, and what He is about to do. The Psalmist captures it this way “Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name!” (Psalm 100:4).

Child of God, don’t forget to be thankful to God. Where you are today is someone’s current prayer point. You may not have gotten to your desired location but you sure are no longer where you used to be. Make Thanksgiving your go-to principle. When you don’t understand, give thanks, if things don’t work the way you planned, give thanks to God. A heart full of thanksgiving will never lack any good thing. Stay in the place of Thanksgiving and your life will be filled with testimonies.
