And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us (Romans 5:5)
Growing up, my dad had an interesting way of communicating instructions or corrections to us. It is a common trait among Africans to communicate using proverbs. This is especially true among the Igbos, where it is believed that proverbs are the “oil with which words are eaten.” A snake must, of necessity, give birth to something long, is one of the proverbs my dad grilled into me.
Human life is made up of water and blood. The life of the born-again believer is made up of love. The believer in Christ cannot help but love because he or she was born that way. Our opening verse reveals an action the Father had already completed in the life of the Christian: He poured His love on us. The Lord is not going to do it or trying to do it; it’s already done! We are the product of God’s love. This must be why the Apostle John said in 1 John 4:7, Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and everyone that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
It is not in the nature of God to demand something from the believer that He hasn’t given him already. No wonder the word of eternal life was not committed to angels but to the believer. We were created after His nature of love. It is this love that Apostle Paul made reference to as necessity in 1 Corinthians 9:16:For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel! The love of the Father compels us to share the Word of eternal life with family, friends, and colleagues.
Wake up each morning with a refreshed determination to share the love of the Father that was poured into you. Let people see the Lord not just through your words but also by your acts of love. The liquid love of the Father resides in you. Let that love flow freely through you to your unsaved friends.
PRAYER
Thank you, Father, for pouring your liquid love on me. I manifest this love in my daily affairs through my commitment to evangelism in Jesus’ name.
